John Neptune rows along the Penobscot River in the early morning. The Penobscot tribe in central Maine has lived in harmony with the Penobscot River for hundreds of years. Now, they are relegated to Indian Island as their only tribal land. Indian Island is home to about 2,000 Penobscots and rests in the middle of the Penobscot River.
